Amity
The Amity quilt is a self-drafted quilt pattern, though the design was originally created for a pinor noir bottle label from nearby Amity Vineyards. The quilty design caught my eye and was an easy purchase since it's my favorite style of wine. The two colors on the front align exactly with the label, while the contrasting backing is a nod to the signature color of a pinot noir. An orange binding is a fun pop of color that draws your eyes to the featured design. It was hand sewn with “big stitch” stitching with thick, white thread. The quilting lines follow the block in a diagonal pattern from edge to edge.
After confirming the taste of the purchased wine was worth the investment, I pieced together the blocks in diagonal rows. It was only while sewing the rows together that I discovered they didn't actually line up consistently in block formation. I also learned that laying out the design on hardwood floors is tricky business with a curious cat. I packed this quilt top on a trip to Yosemite National Park and took some photos in the valley.
