Balboa Island

This crib sized quilt design is a nod to sailboats on the sea. When pattern testing, I often choose fabrics and hues that differ from the designer’s original mock-up to show versatility in the design. In this case, yellow was used for the sailboat hull, while other unique colors make up the sails. A bright tangerine corner pops amongst an otherwise muted palette. The backing is the softest material, an earthy green with white dots. The parsley green on the front also wraps around the quilt’s binding. The final photo was taken in front of a three dimensional wall in Portland, which felt like a moving sea with waves that compliment the sailing theme.

This quilt was a pattern test project, which entails meticulously reviewing the instructions for clarity and accuracy before the pattern becomes publicly available. It’s a wonderful design, for those who like sailing and for those who don’t!
