Oregon for Home

This wall quilt is a pattern designed by a quilter that I have looked up to for many years. The three distinct landscapes of Oregon - coast, desert, mountains - are depicted in the three sections of this design. Natural colors highlight each of those elements, while the back’s blue-and-white stripes remind me of all the rivers and streams that wind through every corner of this beautiful state. Quilting lines echo each of the shapes. Two corner pockets on the back allow for a dowel to help hang it on the wall.

Every October, I celebrate the anniversary of moving to Oregon by mushroom foraging with friends deep in the various forests in the Pacific Northwest. In the year I finished this quilt, I took it with me and snapped a photo with a basket of freshly picked chanterelles - just hours before they were sautéed in a risotto. The sun shape was the first, and definitely not the last, fully inset circle that I have sewn. This quilt currently hangs in our bedroom.
