Black Lives Matter

In June of 2020, I went for a long run for the first time in *a while* and passed so many uplifting and handmade signs hung in windows, staked in yards, stapled to telephone poles. “Use your voice” and “Your art is your voice. What will you say?” were among them (a mile apart from each other). I took to quilting while trying to process my thoughts, the headlines, the protests in my backyard, everyone’s backyards, the massive influx of media and social media fighting for my attention. Everyone was focused on the death of George Floyd and the immense emotions that followed. I downloaded the audio book How To Be An Anti-Racist by Ibram X Kendi and meditated through his voice and story while piecing together each letter of this quilt. It was emotional and the only thing I could possibly think to quilt. It was the way I used my art as my voice. 🖤 Black lives matter. Today. Tomorrow. And every day after that.
