Meadowland for Alyssa

A local Portland quilt designer Meghan @ Then Came June released a new quilt pattern and hosted a #meadowlandqal quilt along on Instagram. This was the first quilt I made for myself and was the largest to date. I chose a bunch of cherished prints and added a neutral, low volume fabric for the background. A wild variety of prints was thoughtfully organized to create a wonderful flow of color and value. The backing fabric is a textured gray Essex linen fabric, a durable choice that is growing ever softer with time. This was the first time I had quilted with an arc design, a style I learned from Jacquie Gering's book, Walk.

I hand binded this quilt in a reading nook in Alaska on a family road trip in August 2019. Its final photo shoot was appropriately located on the Matanuska Glacier. On the way, we stopped to take in a rare and breathtaking view of Denali(!!!). This quilt is frequently found on my couch and packed on most road trips.
