Modern Fans for Larkin

This is the second Modern Fans quilt that I've made, using a different variation of the pattern this time. A color palette with pops of green and yellow is balanced with a white and blue-dotted print for the background and backing. The wide diagonal grid quilting adds a contrast of linearity on top an all-curved pattern. The lovely minimalist mountain fabric appears in the quarter circles and adds visual interest to the binding. While the amazing forest mural in Portland was the perfect backdrop for the quilt top (complete with a full-bloom forsythia bush), the large buzzing bees on another mural was too unique to pass up for the final quilted shoot.

This quilt was made for my best friend who was expecting her first child and was designed with both of our favorite colors. We met in college and now live on opposite sides of the country. A token of our friendship and the wonderful excitement of an expanding family, this quilt is still one of my favorites to date. As equal lovers of cats and quilts, I loved that Myles was just as thrilled about the gift <3
