Tame Beasts for Shawn
This quilt features a quilted replica of a monochromatic t-shirt design found on Minus The Bear's merch store online. After mocking up a few color variations, I landed on the color scheme of their 2017 tour poster. Each square geometrically spells out the letters of the band's name. Since there was no pattern to follow, I had to figure out how to sew each block on my own. I used PowerPoint to create a grid over each block to help determine the specific shapes and fabric requirements. Some blocks were easy, others I knew would be difficult, and a few caught me by surprise with how challenging it would be to ensure every point lined up perfectly. The border around the quilt is half purple / half peach, split diagonally on the front. The backing is a very soft, textured charcoal linen that has softened more over time. The dark gray striped binding pulls together the front and back and was hand sewn on the back. It's a lovely feel on the edge of the entire quilt. An "X" design for the quilting radiates from corner to corner.
I titled this quilt "Tame Beasts", a song from their final album, Voids. It hung at the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show as part of my local quilt guild's music-themed display called "Let Our Quilts Sing".
