Tri Delta for McKenzie
This large t-shirt quilt consists of dozens of sorority shirts my sister acquired at college. Organized in columns of evenly distributed colors, each shirt is forever stitched alongside each other, honoring all the experiences held within each shirt. Shirts that feature the Tri Delta logo border the entire perimeter. A medium gray sheet is used for the entire backing. Due to the heavier weight of t-shirts, there is no middle batting to ensure the quilt can be used year round.
Following college graduation, a drawer full of sorority shirts felt purposeless. Eyeing up the quilt I made for all my sports t-shirts, my sister wanted to honor her shirts in the same way. Together on her bedroom floor, we laid out all the shirts and organized the quilt top. From there, I took them all to my home where I cut and pieced each block. A small sewing space soon sprawled onto the kitchen floor. My cat was thrilled with her first experience with unattended fabric. My parent’s cat felt the same attraction when I brought the quilt back to my parents’ house for a larger table setting when sewing the top together. What a special experience. Delivered on her birthday, I was thrilled with the final outcome!
