Wallowa for Soli
This symmetrical crib quilt features large V shapes in various colors, textures, and designs. The blue is a nod to the color of the Pacific Ocean; the yellow depicting the bright southern California sun. The background is a naturally dyed fabric I made using avocados, while the dark charcoal fabric is a soft linen that adds a little extra texture for litte hands to feel. A gray and white pinstripes fabric is a subtle print used for the X in the middle of the quilt and bounds the top and bottom. Quilting lines follow both the X and the horizontal lines on the top and bottom. A super soft backing fabric further accentuates a sunny day with an earth toned organic cotton print. A blue chambray fabric surrounds the quilt in the binding and was hand sewn on the back. My parents and I stayed at an Airbnb in Los Angeles for the baby shower and it had THE perfect yellow arched door for a very LA photo shoot.
This quilt was created especially for my nephew in celebration of my brother's first child. While I followed most of the original pattern exactly as written, I added two yellow semi circles on either side of the quilt, a special touch that adds a little bit of my own style and makes this quilt uniquely his. Though I gifted this quilt before he was born, Soli's name was eventually hand embroidered on the back corner.
