Cosmic Waterfall
This throw sized quilt's color palette was inspired by the colors of moss and lichen often seen on trees here in the Pacific Northwest. The pattern intended to have gradients of two colors which was perfect to depict all these various shades. The 1/2" strips are of a dark brown, a nod to all the trees' intersecting branches. The backing fabric was a furtuitous find after the quilt top was already pieced together. Rounded mountain ranges made up of various geometric shapes in various colors that are often found on the quilt front spread across the back. The backing was pieced together meticulously so the print would have a seamless appearance. A brighter orange binding aligns with both and front and back color schemes and was sewn with coordinating thread (orange on the back and brown on the front). Long diagonal quilting lines extend from corner to corner.
I made this quilt as part of a pattern test where a handful of quilters follow the pattern and confirm that it is both accurate and easy to follow. It was Radha's first quilt pattern and she knocked it out of the park. It was also the first time I had pieced such long skinny strips and was a fun challenge to ensure everything lined up perfectly.
